Emerging into a new world

Covid 19 may have changed the way we work, shop, interact, think and behave. As a leader, business owner or manager there will be a lot you need to think through and put into action as we emerge from lockdown. Here are 5 of the top topics we are discussing with clients right now.

  1. Find a new Purpose - winning organisations will have a clear idea of the value they contribute to customers, society and their employees. A meaningful vision, the 'why' an organisation exists, engages and delivers more than 'what' you do or 'how'.

  2. Have a workable Business Model - there is a new paradigm within which organisations need to function. New ways of thinking and operating will colour the way customers perceive their needs and how best these might be met. Organisations need to look anew at assets, resources, costs, products/services, the markets they will serve and revenues they might expect. Consider how these elements can deliver a valuable product or service offering and how staff and customers interact for mutual benefit.

  3. Define and communicate a strategy - Leaders at every level need to establish a clear and inspiring sense of direction, where teams and individuals know exactly what they have to do to achieve an outcome they can believe will not only deliver results but also make them feel good about the job they are doing.

  4. Focus on Teams - more than ever how teams function and perform will determine organisational success. There is a skills gap emerging due in part to the nature of the dynamic nature of modern teams and the pace of change in a complex world. Upskilling teams and individuals working in multiple teams, including members in different locations and function areas, will need to focus on technical, social and emotional understanding and development.

  5. Leadership - no longer a capability miraculously acquired with a senior role but a profession, requiring a deep knowledge and understanding of what leadership involves, the development of a skillset and savvy application of such in a timely and effective manner, moral character development including a strong ethic and courage. Leadership is not conferred by a title or an MBA but by dedicated self investment and development. Some aspects of leadership can be learnt but much comes from within and ones potential needs to be nutured and supported.
